DIY Shamrock Shake

I remember pestering my mom for a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake every time I got in the car, for about a month before St. Patrick’s Day. As an adult, I still get the urge to go get one. Only for nostalgia’s sake now, they don’t seem to taste as good as I remember. Could be that kids really have crappy taste OR maybe they did change it. Tastes more chemical and fake to me now.

Sorry for all the harassment mom.

This recipe is with mint extract, but if you can’t find that peppermint is fine. Either way it will taste really good. The best part of making it at home is that you get to control what goes into it. You can make your own whipped cream, use less dye, add fancy ice cream, or even spike it with some Bailey’s.

Put a cherry on that stuff man.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ tsp mint or peppermint extract
  • 3 or 4 drops green food coloring
  • Whipped cream topping
  • Maraschino cherry garnish

Instructions

  • Add ice cream, milk, mint, and food coloring to blender.
  • Blend till combined and pour into glass.

Notes

You can also line the cup with a line of chocolate syrup. Other toppings include sprinkles or lucky charms. If you want an adult version add a few shots of Irish cream like Bailey’s.
