Mascarpone whipped icing inside a crispy puff pastry—topped with fresh sugared strawberries. I’m always looking for an excuse to use mascarpone. I just love the taste and it can be used in place of cream cheese and ricotta in desserts for a totally new taste!
These hearts are a cute idea for a Valentine’s breakfast or dessert. Very easy to prep most of it ahead of time. The puff pastry is the only thing you should bake right before eating.
Making the Heart Shaped Pastry
• Roll the puff pastry out slightly. Just to smooth it out, you don’t want to loose the flaky layers.
• Use a 3 inch heart cutter.
for the inside use a cookie cutter that is about 1 inch in size.
• Using a fork poke holes in the center.
• Brush on egg wash.
• After baking use the cleaned smalled cutter to take out a few layers and make a cup.
• Fill with whipped mascarpone icing.
• Top with strawberries.
Variations you could try are raspberries, jam, or add some lemon and lemon zest to the whipped icing.
