DIY Marshmallow Fondant

Too lazy to run out to the craft store for fondant? Think it tastes awful anyway? Me too, me too… You know Marshmallow Fondant, on the other hand, is actually pretty good AND you can make it out of stuff from the grocery store. It can also be made any color with regular old food coloring and some elbow grease.

Now I can do ANYTHING

I was surprised at how easy it was to pull off. Didn’t even need to get out the ol KitchenAid. Just a glass bowl and a spatula. This fondant can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for a few weeks. Just knead it to warm it up again before using.

Marshmallow Fondant

Ingredients

  • 16 oz bag of mini marshmallows
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 lbs confectioners sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1-2 tbsp butter or vegetable shortening

Instructions

  • Microwave marshmallows and water in 30 sec intervals till melted. Stir after each time to check consistency. Takes about 2 or 3 times.
  • Stir marshmallows and water till smooth, add in vanilla. Mix again.
  • Slowly add in most of the sugar, about ¾ of it. Grease hands and surface with butter or shortening. You can also use the extra powdered sugar to keep the fondant from sticking to surface or rolling pin.
  • Knead the fondant till smooth, add more sugar if needed.
  • Add any color now by flattening out a piece of fondant and putting a drop or 2 of color in center. Fold fondant over and knead until color in incorporated.
  • Store greased or powdered, wrapped in plastic and in a ziplock bag.
  • Will last for weeks stored in the fridge.
